decorating with pictures

Hello blog readers! I was so excited when Kristen ask me to be a guest blogger as a part of her Decorating With Pictures series.  Every day in February she has a different guest blogger sharing how they decorate with photographs.  Check it out for lots of ideas and fun decorating tips!

As photographers we are endlessly creating images and portrait displays for our clients, but it’s always been a priority of my own to have beautiful images displayed in my home as well.  Photos can liven up almost any space in your home, I mean who can resist those smiling faces looking back at you every day?  It doesn’t matter if you have a little space or a lot of space, opportunities to display your photos are everywhere.  Today I’m sharing how I display photos in my own home.

Upon entering our home you are greeted with this lovely display that continues up the stairs on the second level.  This display showcases cherished photos from our session with Pastel Photography.

Three 11×14 images matted to 16×20 frames hang in the dining room.

A collage of 3 prints displayed on the mantle.

I am so in love with this wall gallery, it’s my favorite thing in my home (besides the people, of course. ;)).  It showcases almost 14 feet of various images taken of my kids & family over the years – all printed in black & white to unify the display, and hung in our basement family room.  If you can’t tell by now, I prefer the look of a matted print.  :) I love the gallery style look of a crisp white mat and a simple black frame for wall portraits.  Picture overload!

(All frames from this display were purchased at Pottery Barn. Actual photographs range in size from 14×14 to 4×6)

A few more from the family room…

(10×20 framed collage print displayed on easels below)

Framed portraits atop the dresser in the master bedroom.  The kids are usually the focus of photo sessions, but it’s important to remember images with your significant other as well. :)  Feel free to mix and match frame styles for a more eclectic look.

Each one of my girls has photos displayed in their bedrooms as well.

(Fun tip! Use room coordinating scrapbook paper behind photos to create a fun matted look.  The photographs are taped in place on top of the scrapbook paper.)

Thanks for letting me share!  I hope I have inspired you to get your images in frames and start enjoying them!! :)

…this is my wish for you: comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, love to complete your life.

The world of photography has granted me many blessings which I will be forever grateful for…my beautiful friend Heather is most definitely one of them.  Although we are separated by approx. 500 miles, rarely does a day go by that we don’t catch up with each other.  We usually meet up a few times a year whether it be a photography conference, girls weekend, or a meet-up with the fam…and a couple weekends ago I made the trek to visit her for some girl time, shopping fun, and…dun dun dun…family photos!

With the goal of a nice large living room wall display in mind, here is some of the loveliness that was captured…

A potential wall display…all will be canvas…

Another option with a few less images…

Love you friend! xoxo
