Fashion Friday

Better late than never…right!?! ;)

So…I’ve already confessed my love affair with the GAP right?!?  I swear, I need to buy stock in that store!!  Last week we picked outfits for older kiddos, so this week is dedicated to the little bambinos…up to 12 months.  It’s too bad my youngest daughter has outgrown the newborn collections at the GAP or I’d surely be running out to buy these now…I love these classic fall colors.  I’m hoping they come out with a collection in these colors for the 1-5 year olds as well.  :)  These colors would look FABULOUS combined with the lovely fall foliage.

I could not decide between these first 2 picks, so I decided to showcase them both! I loved the funky butterfly print dress paired with the sweet brown sweater of this first one.

…and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cable knit sweater dress shown here. My daughter actually had the lavender one from last year and the texture of the knit with the fun striped tights are just a match made in heaven (yes, I’m a dork, I know ;))…and they photograph just lovely too! :)

We can’t leave out the little men now. Here’s something equally as cute for them. How can one resist the newsboy cap??

Fashion Friday

I know, I know…I’m a few days late this week.  Chalk it up to a busy week!! :)  I have gotten a few requests to put together a few outfits for older kids, so that’s what I have for you this week.  Both of these outfits can be found at Old Navy…for kiddos 5 and older.

It’s okay to have a little fun with your outfits….Rock-n-Roll styles are sure to be a huge hit this year!

For the little ladies…a fun denim blazer and some stylish pink accessories. I actually chose this outfit for a Fresh Faces session I have coming up this week…so stay tuned for those photos later this week.

If you really like layers, but aren’t sure how to implement them or what looks good together, here’s a tip.  If you have a jacket on top that’s denim (like the one shown here), choose pants that are something other than denim, think white, khaki, olive green, brown, etc.  and vice versa if you have a khaki jacket, choose a different color bottom for more visual interest and a less matchy-matchy look. :)  Sometimes you CAN get away with denim on top and bottom, but you definitely DO NOT want them to be the same wash…that is SO last year!! ;)

Fashion Friday

I’ve been hearing from clients already telling me how much they loved last weeks “fashion friday”, so thank you for the positive feedback.  Some of you hadn’t heard of Mini Boden before and I’m sure your wallets will be much lighter after visiting their site! :)  I can never resist either!!  If you missed last weeks “Fashion Friday”, you can check it out here.

This week we’ll feature some ideas from GAP.  Can I tell you just how much I LOVE this store???   :)

The minute I saw the “Batik Chic” collection in stores, I think my heart skipped a beat!  Actually, I photographed a client wearing one of the dresses and made a bee line to the store on the way home from the session.  ;) Choose the shoes that fit your style, and a few fun accessories always add a nice touch.  And what’s even better…..I believe this collection just went on sale!

….and for the guys…layering is totally “in” for fall fashion…add some flair by layering a striped dress shirt under one of GAP’s Junk Food Tees.  We’ll cuff the sleeves for a relaxed look! ;)

Fashion Friday

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the first installment of Fashion Friday!  If you haven’t read the previous posts, every Friday through fall I will be posting a few outfits that would be great for photo sessions.  I’m hoping this will give you all visuals, or a starting point to shopping for your own family.  If you love the outfits we put together, I’m including links to purchase them as well, if not, hopefully they will get the ideas flowing.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

TIP #1: Where to start? Choose a patterned outfit for one of the members of your family (maybe a funky floral print dress for your baby girl or plaid cargo shorts for your little man)  Pull complimentary colors from the “inspiration piece” as a guide to dressing the rest of the family.

TIP #2: Coordinate, YES! Identical, NO!  You don’t dress alike any other day of the week, so why do it for your photo session?  The days of solid shirts and khakis are long gone!  If mom and dad are both wearing solid shirts, try having mom in khakis and dad in jeans for some added interest, or if you’d prefer to both wear jeans, choose different washes. Stores like Gymboree or The GAP offer great options for coordinating outfits!

TIP #3: Accessorize!!
The key to having photos with that fashion flair is to add visual interest with layers, textures, and accessories! Think hats, scarves, sweaters, denim jackets, vests, necklaces, bracelets, etc.

After receiving their new Fall catalog in the mail just yesterday, I thought I would start with one of my favorites, the UK company MiniBoden.  Their style is so colorful and fun, I could easily choose one of everything!  While the girls collections are so, SO adorable, they have some pretty great stuff for the guys too.  Because they are a UK company, this sizing is a smidge different than the US so be sure to check out their size charts before ordering.  The good news is you’ll have your order in 7-10 days!
